All great things start small.
We're small but growing rapidly.
Our first run of 1,000 magazines in 2007 were all picked up by members of the University of Chicago community within five days of the launch. Magazines were picked up by the Regenstein Library. A trip to 57th Street Books led to the discovery of several magazines on display. Someone even said they saw a copy in Wicker Park and at Northwestern University.
In 2009, we are aiming to deliver 1,500 magazines with vastly upgraded content (double the color to 64 pages, extend the magazine to 148 pages from 124).
How are we going to do this?
Hopefully, with a little help from you.
Last year, SLICED BREAD Magazine received donations from alumni and most notably from Evan Behrens, AB '92. Without the support of donors, SLICED BREAD would not be possible!
What does your donation support?
Nothing less than the nurturing of creative work at the greatest university in the world. SLICED BREAD is a forum and exhibition space for the very best work produced by the students, both undergraduate and graduate, here at The University of Chicago. Moreover, SLICED BREAD is also a place to showcase alumni work. In our first year, we received submissions from over 300 people, amounting to over 800 submissions. This year, we have already received over 1,000 submissions from some 400 people from across the University of Chicago community.
How can you donate?
Simply shoot us an e-mail at editors@slicedbreadmag.com and we can start! As a part of the University, all donations are backed by the full faith and credit of the University of Chicago. We are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, which means your donations are tax-exempt.
