Summer Selections

Some selections from the summer of 2007. Ah, the warmth of sunlight! To see a full list of music recommendations, check out our Procrastinations page.

Katie: "Hey, hey, hey, hey, I don't wanna be your gf!"

Gosh, I love Jump, Little Children and Nicekl Creek. In fact, I would even dare to say this music transcends the "good music to procrastinate to while playing online games and pretending you are e-mailing really important people about school related stuff" typecast that most of the stuff I listen to fits in with. Whew. Long sentence. Anyways, I also love Avril Lavigne's song "Girlfriend". It is really intellectually stimulating.

Nathan: "Mmmm...whistling..."

IMG_0508.JPGI just finished listening to Armchair Apocrypha, Andrew Bird's newest album. It's a haunting collection of songs, made even more eerie by his whistling. I'm not sure if I've ever heard anyone whistle quite like that; it's certainly not country twang. There's enough criticism in his lyrics concerning today's American issues (Iraq and poverty, for instance), which puts you in a bit of downer if you think too deeply about it (and after Christmas dinner, you'll probably just fall asleep to it).

Courtney: Repeat after me...

COURTNEY%20PORTRAIT.jpgThe album you will soon have on endless repeat right after you purchase it is The Blow's new release, Paper Television. It's essentially pop with beats and lyrics that keep you moving, but has a level of complexity to it that mocks cliche pop throughout the decades.

Eliot: Three Names Are All You Need

ELIOT%20PORTRAIT.jpgListen - just dig up some Ella Fitzgerald, Bob Dylan, and Dean Martin. They're still unbelievably cool.
