SLICED BREAD accepts submissions in every genre. A quick list, if you will: Short Fiction, Long Fiction Excerpts, Non-Fiction, Essays, Articles, Opinions, Rants, Poetry, Photography, Sculpture, Drawing, Painting, Etchings, Scribbles, CGI, Music, et cetera. If you have questions about your submission, you should e-mail us.

Before you submit, you must carefully read our Submission Guidelines below. Failure to do so will mean that your submission may be ignored. These guidelines are specifically designed to help speed up our review process. The submissions link is at the bottom of the page!

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
 
For all submissions...
  • No more than ONE submission per email. If you are submitted five poems, you should send them in five separate emails. We do not accept compilations of works or consolidated word documents. Each work must be in its own file in its own email.
  • The subject of your email must follow this format: TYPE (art or writing), TITLE, LAST NAME
For written submissions...
  • Written Submissions should be submitted in Microsoft Word Document format or in rich-text format (RTF).
  • Submissions must not exceed 16 pages double-spaced in length. Please do not use weirdly formatted margins or miniscule text sizes. If it's smaller than 12 point, then we won't read it.
  • We do not accept more than 3 submissions from a single author. One piece = one submission. Submit only your best work. We do not review entire portfolios of work.
  • Please include in your e-mail the following:
    1. Your first and last name
    2. Your desired published name
    3. Your affiliation with the University of Chicago (if you are unaffiliated, you may not submit to Sliced Bread)
    4. The title of your submission
    5. A short explanation of your submission (because we don't want to misjudge your metaphors!)
For artistic renderings...
  • We will not accept more than 8 submissions.
  • Art submissions must be submitted in a .TIFF
  • All submission photos should be at least 300 dpi resolution. We will not accept anything lower than 300 dpi. 
  • Please submit one grayscale and one color version of your image, unless you wish it only be accepted in on or the other
  • If any of these conditions are not met your piece will not be reviewed. We will contact you and let you know, but we take these requirements very seriously.
  • Please include in your e-mail the following:
    1. Your first and last name
    2. Your desired published name
    3. Your affiliation with the University of Chicago (if you are unaffiliated, you may not submit to Sliced Bread)
    4. The title of your submission
    5. A short explanation of your submission (because we don't want to misjudge your perspective!)
    6. The medium of your submission and the original dimensions. If photography, please provide us with the type of film (if digital, then just say digital), the make of the camera, and any special lenses that you may be using.
    7. The resolution of the image
  • If you cannot e-mail the file because it is too big (try e-mailing first!), please upload your file at the Large Files Drop Box. Make sure you e-mail the information requested above and tell us that you have uploaded the file to the drop box. Naming the file with your last name and the title will help us even further.
